Lincoln and the necessity of compromise, Wall-E and AI's "alignment problem", and what Tom Hanks's murderous thief in The Ladykillers has in common with you-know-who.
2. The Dark Knight — filmed right outside where I worked
1. Inception — also filmed right outside where I worked — the movie that finally made me remember a truth I too once knew, but chose to forget. And then flew to LA. I carry the totem, hoping I too would learn to forgive myself, just like Mr. Cobb.
Wall-E is the most prescient movie that nobody talks about. I'm surprised and glad to know that it made that list, which means that maybe more people will see it (and talk about it!)
I have browsed some of the responses, and I am quite surprised that no one has named Perfume: The Story of A Murderer. It is so dark and beautiful. The cinematography is fantastic. It is my second favorite movie of all time.
Not in any order but… Midsommar, Perfect Days, Boyhood, Worst Person in the World, Eternal Sunshine, Afternoon Delight, Force Majeure, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Before Midnight, I’m Still Here
I love the film, WALL-E. When you started talking about how we are headed in the direction of becoming those button-pressing blimps and that you kind of hated saying it with a smile, a thought occurred to me. If you program a machine to wrest control, that’s what it’ll do. It has nothing to do with any ‘want’ of the machine. It’s not what the machine wants but what the humans wanted when they (we) made the thing. We are organisms whereas the machine was made — with nonorganic materials — by organisms.
* The Hunters (Jägarna, this isn't a 21st century film, since it's from 1996, but it had such an impact on me because I could related to the village mentality of it and I know it does exist with English subs)
* I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (싸이보그지만 괜찮아)
* The Lighthouse of the Orcas (El faro de las orcas)
So looks like you decided against speaking out. Have you been paying any attention to the brutalization of immigrants in America? Or are you still too worried about calling these folks Nazi’s cuz it hasn’t gotten bad enough yet? They’re building camps and filling them with the folks that pick our fucking food while calling them vermin and gleefully celebrating the torture. And ya know, I wouldn’t be up your ass except that you shit-posted about my comment to get yourself some more engagement and then didn’t continue to speak out against the violence being committed against immigrants. It’s almost like you used the issue to get yourself some clicks. Good work, kid.
