Mine (all time):

10. The Nightmare Before Christmas

9. Sleeping Beauty

8. Her

7. Drive

6. Memento

5. Moulin Rouge

4. Hero

3. Lord of the Rings

2. The Dark Knight — filmed right outside where I worked

1. Inception — also filmed right outside where I worked — the movie that finally made me remember a truth I too once knew, but chose to forget. And then flew to LA. I carry the totem, hoping I too would learn to forgive myself, just like Mr. Cobb.

I 100% agree with Wall-E. The very first time we ordered DoorDash I told my family "It's happening! We are becoming those people who don't get up!"

What? No "The Hottie and the Nottie"? Robbed.*

* A joke.**

I can't believe there isn't a single Wes Anderson movie listed. The Grand Budapest is awesome, my favorite is Royal Tenenbaums followed extermely closely by Life Aquatic- but Moonrise Kingdom was great too. Isle of Dogs was also good- Fantastic Mr. Fox has to be a close third for me.

In general this is such a hard ask, there have been way too many to really narrow down to simply 10 movies in my entire life.

Mads Michelson alone has made some incredible films- Another Round being one of them

No one has talked about any Bollywood, Action besides Hero (great call btw)

Crouching Tiger? Come on- these are staples in culture

Mission Impossible was literally the culmination of years of excellent cinema:

Ronin, Heat, Resevoir Dogs

Cabin in the Woods, obviously Hereditary

Parasite

And I'm sorry- but where is Casino, or GF2? I know they landed in the actual top list but how does no one have these films? The Dark Knight- loved it- more than Inception personally. And no offense JGL- truly. You've been in so many amazing films- but Your best work was in 50/50, and frankly- for me- Make Em Laugh and your episode of SNL, especially when you were on the Chill talk show with dave matthews as ozzy- man that's one of the funniest sketches on SNL for me. I know I'm one guy with one opinion... You're one of my favorite actors of all time. 500 Days of Summer showcased you 100 times more than Inception did. Honestly- that movie was less about you then nearly everyone else in it! So as awesome as it was, I can watch Mean Girls over and over and the Matrix too, but I'd rather see your human roles- even the Christmas movie wtih Seth Rogan etc. You've got that comedy and dramatic down pat. Can't wait for the next one..

I have browsed some of the responses, and I am quite surprised that no one has named Perfume: The Story of A Murderer. It is so dark and beautiful. The cinematography is fantastic. It is my second favorite movie of all time.

Uh-Oh Joe! This is gonna take awhile. Please allow us the ability to edit/update. Good gawd, top 10 will be TOUGH. Plus I'm old & will want to include the prior century as well. To narrow down & even try to prioritize 😯 This is gonna have to be a WIP PROJECT. I love a lot of movies for a lot of reasons. I'd be pressed on a top 100, so 10 will be tough! Picking a fave in 10 categories? Yikes! Easier to pick top 10 bands, imho. This will be fun though! Please keep it open so everyone can share & learn what they've been missing!

That said, I'll kick it off with (in alphabetical order)

A Hidden Life

Casualties of War

Mr. Wonderful (I love 500 Days of Summer, too!)

Never Let Me Go

Snowpiercer

The Safety of Objects

Something that gets in the way of being able to categorize films or make any type of recommendation, let alone a top 10 list, at least for me, is the feeling and the reality that I haven't seen enough, that my "must watch" list is far longer than my "have watched" list. Doubting if I have enough points of reference. But I suppose that's one reason why this is all so subjective, huh?

FYI, when I say "must watch" I mean for me- my to-do list!

Likewise, the when, where, how aspect. Being older & having seen Jaws & the original Star Wars in the theatre when they were released...it's pretty darned hard to discount the impact on something like that! I've seen A LOT, but my must see list is easily 100! EASILY! Take all the original Planet of the Apes! Just as relevant today as when I saw those in the theater as well! Oh, and BAMBI! Heck, if I had grandkids, I'd show them Cinderella & Snow White & teach them it's propaganda! 😆 I really mean it about the experience though...likewise Space Odyssey. Some movies you just HAD TO SEE in real time. Exorcist as well. Boy was that fun watching all the "adults" freak out over that one!

I love the film, WALL-E. When you started talking about how we are headed in the direction of becoming those button-pressing blimps and that you kind of hated saying it with a smile, a thought occurred to me. If you program a machine to wrest control, that’s what it’ll do. It has nothing to do with any ‘want’ of the machine. It’s not what the machine wants but what the humans wanted when they (we) made the thing. We are organisms whereas the machine was made — with nonorganic materials — by organisms.
