I was horrified to hear an ad for an AI “toy” that supposedly “helps” your child make up stories. Have they ever met a child? They do nothing better than make up stories! Why would anyone think a child needs to become dependent on AI to make up a story at 4 years old? The sheer greed and desire to mine us for data as early as possible is staggering. Thank you for speaking out, more people need to.

I'm sure most of these toys will end up knowing every swear ever.

This reminds me of one horrifying tale when I was home for the holidays from college and I heard what sounded like an intruder upstairs. My family hadn't gotten home yet. I called my mom and she stayed on the phone while I went upstairs to investigate the upstairs hall closet. I threw the door open, armed and ready to face... my sister's 10 year old Furby that had woken itself up and was rocking back and forth blinking without being able to speak. My heart stopped but I let the Furby live.

Thank you for being vocal on this! These are really scary facts that most people are not even contemplating. These discussions need to be had everywhere!

it's scary. it's about data mining and propaganda.

Furby toys …. Remember those?

that is A) none of your business and B) not relevant to this AI topic.

I remember when high ranking government officials weren’t allowed to own a furbie toy…for fear of secret intelligence information getting leaked

"AI Toys Pose ‘Unprecedented Risks’ to Infants and Children, Advisory Warns

The primary targets of toy manufacturers are young children who are less developed and easily influenced, the advocacy group said."

I feel like I am someone's Mom, posting this in a multi CC 'consumer threat' e-mail.

That’s insanity. And now they’re going after Chomsky? Idiocracy; just like the movie.

Especially those little furry animals are meant to take the place of human being

the good news about kids is that they get bored very fast, and the AI toy may end up dismantled at the bottom of the garden before your know it. That said.... this unbridled AI technology is very concerning. my startup was on the UC Berkeley Skydeck program- 18/20 startups were Tech, and evidently AI. mine is biotech ah ah ah... these 20 something kids with their Meta Raybans were scary: living in complete fantasy. hyper smart but hyper disconnected. I am not anti-AI, I was CBO of a generative AI biotech. but AI Toys is off-limit.
